Film Analysis:

South Carolina’s Trey Knox is a versatile tight end who looks to continue his success at the NFL level. Knox was a fifth-year senior who originally played his initial four years at the University of Arkansas before grad-transferring to South Carolina in 2023. Knox originally played receiver at Arkansas before transitioning to tight end halfway through his career.

As a prospect, Knox has just above-average size and overall athleticism. He primarily aligned as an “F” where he was detached off the line of scrimmage but would also align as a traditional “Y” and in the slot.

Knox is an above-average athlete with good speed to eat up cushion down the seam. He has a long stride and can eat up grass as he gets going down the field. Knox is just an average route-runner and lacks polish in this regard as South Carolina did a lot to scheme him open and create easy completions. Knox was primarily used on crossers, delayed leaks, and screens where he was able to catch the ball with very few defenders near him and he rarely had to win with route-running one-on-one. He is a good runner after the catch who runs with power but lacks any elusiveness to this game. Knox has excellent hands and body control and is a very natural pass-catcher overall.

In the run game, Knox is a wall and seal-off blocker rather than a man-to-man mauler. He lacks the size and strength to generate push at the point of attack and will get inverted when faced with power on his head. He flashes excellent effort to sustain blocks but his lack of NFL strength will limit him in this regard.

Overall, Knox projects as a backup pass-catching tight end who has enough athleticism and natural receiving ability to contribute as a back-end roster player.
