Film Analysis:
Western Kentucky’s Austin Reed is a small-school prospect looking to make the big jump to the NFL. Reed was a four-year starter at the collegiate level but had many stops along the way. He originally played at Southern Illinois for one year and then transferred to Division II West Florida. He played at West Florida for two years before transferring for a second time and enrolling at Western Kentucky, where he finished out his career for two seasons.
Reed has had a lot of success throughout his collegiate career and has led his team to a lot of wins, which has put him on NFL teams’ radars. Reed had good overall height and size for the position and is an average athlete overall. He plays in a spread offense where he is tasked with making quick decisions and getting the ball out fast. He has an average arm in terms of velocity and strength and he has below-average overall accuracy and touch.
Reed has very good field vision and can find receivers who uncover late in the down. Additionally, he has very good feel in the pocket and is rarely rattled by pressure.
Overall, Reed lacks NFL arm talent to warrant a look as a starter, but his winning pedigree and production could yield a late-round selection.
