Film Analysis:

A cerebral athlete on the perimeter, the instincts in Jarrian Jones’ game pop off the screen. Consistently in the right spot and leverage is never lost. Athletic corner with a knack for making plays in the shallow to intermediate areas. Quick feet allow Jones to mirror and match a variety of body types off of the line of scrimmage (Miami). Not an explosive athlete when changing direction or triggering downhill, but uses the contact window well to disrupt timing, thus, forcing signal-callers elsewhere in the progression.

In man, Jones does a nice job in isolated opportunities, or communicating and passing off when faced with bunches or stack formations. Stays low in his backpedal with short, quick tempo to change rapidly. Does a nice job of staying hip-to-hip running across the formation with smaller, shiftier wideouts. Has the speed to carry pass-catchers vertically and horizontally. Calculated with his hands at the catch point. Seemingly always in phase and not shy in mixing it up with the ball in the air to establish positioning. Nightmare to block against the run and has a dynamic ability to blow up smoke and tunnel screens.

In zone, Jones is a high-level communicator with the long speed and instincts to make plays on the football (three INTs/three PBUs in 2023). Strong upper body to stay glued to pass-catchers with an innate ability to toe the line of being physical, or drawing a flag.

Concerns remain about his trigger out of a backpedal. Can, at times, get caught playing high, which ultimately delays his transition to acceleration process. He has long strides to eat up ground (4.38 40) but doesn’t work up to fifth gear quickly. Hips are fine, but increased flexibility should assist in generating increased torque to rapidly turn and run. It’s a small issue at this point in his evaluation.

Overall, Jones is a versatile playmaker who will make an impact both as a cover corner and against the run. He’s athletic and big enough to play both inside/out and his cerebral intelligence stands out when identifying offensive concepts.

Prospect Projection: Day 2 — Winning Starter

Exposures: LSU (2023), Miami (2023), Clemson (2023)
