Film Analysis:
Javon Foster has a big frame that prioritizes using body weight to win reps. Excellent length, but needs to be utilized and activated at a higher level. In pass pro, Foster showcases an explosive initial kick-step to cut-off angles. Welcomes contact but can be overpowered at times due to the lack of activation in his upper half. Does a nice job of keeping pass rushers within his frame. Rarely has to reach or turn and run to punch opponents off the arc. IDing stunts/twists is an advanced part of Foster’s game (Tennessee). Has an innate ability to locate potential rotation or to slide and pick up free rushers. Does not have the most fluid lower half, but uses mass well to holster edge rushers as his primary avenue to success.
As a run blocker, Foster gets off the line well to win first with his hands. Uses length well in the ground game. Not overpowering but the initial jolt can knock opponents off-balance. Will, at times, dip head to initiate contact instead of using hands to establish leverage, churn legs, and displace. Experience as a puller but could have a hard time reaching landmarks against more athletic defenders at the next level.
Concerns remain about Foster’s technicality and ability to counter more nuanced pass rushers. Can also play high at times. That combination and lack of usage up top could pave the way for lost reps. It can be a quick fix, however, under correct coaching. Increased muscle mass will help, as well.
Overall, Foster is an intriguing tackle prospect whose best football remains down the road. Fine-tuning his technique and adding muscle mass present the path for Foster to earn snaps at the next level.
