Film Analysis:
Xavier Legette physically resembles a wide receiver that was built in a lab. He has a dense, muscular frame. He has the ideal physical frame for an NFL boundary receiver.
Legette thrives as a big, strong run-after-catch threat. His long speed is outstanding, clocking in at 22.3 mph this season. His speed opens up underneath routes working back to the quarterback. He flashes above-average hip sinkage to pop out of routes like comeback, digs, and hitch routes after pressing the vertical plane initially.
Legette is a physical route-runner who does not shy away from contact during his stem. He does not lose speed while hand-fighting with DBs. His best trait is winning at the catch point. Legette has outstanding leaping ability paired with strong hand-eye coordination to pluck passes out of the air at its highest point. Immense body control and positioning allow him to uncover from coverage for back shoulder throws etc.
Legette struggles with quickness and release at the line of scrimmage right now. Something capable of improving with coaching. He attacks one leverage point and sticks with it rather than using it as a manipulation tactic. He was not tasked with running a well-balanced route tree at South Carolina. Legette has the physical build and functional strength to be a dominant run blocker. He is inconsistent with hand technique and his approach on the perimeter as a play-side blocker. Quick-twitch agile movements limit his impact as a screen option
Xavier Legette projects as WR2/3 early in his career with plenty of potential. He can be used in a multitude of ways. Legette can operate as a constant vertical deep shot threat for a heavy run-and-play action offense. Additionally, he makes plays with manufactured touches like, jet sweeps and jet pop passes. He should be featured as a run-after-catch threat frequently. He is a talented kick return specialist.
A former high school QB turned wide receiver, his developmental upside/ceiling is high if nurtured properly.
