Colorado S Evan Worthington impressed in his senior season for the Buffs — enough to earn himself a Shrine Game invite and pop up on a few NFL radars. At 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds with 32 1/4″ arms, Worthington is quite the big body for the position, but he plays single-high and has the range to get sideline to sideline.
But Worthington’s a maddeningly inconsistent player when aligned as the single deep safety, and it’s impossible to parse out his film into a comfortable evaluation. Two plays from the USC film illustrate this dichotomy: one of the best interceptions you’ll see from a free safety this season; and then an easy play on the ball that went awry for all the wrong reasons.
Worthington has the frame of a box safety and will get reps at that alignment in the NFL — but he would boost his stock tremendously if he could offer interchangeable ability as a free safety as well. That area of his game needs refinement, time — but if it pans out, Worthington profiles as an NFL starter.
