One more week remains in the college football and there is still a ton to sort out. While Alabama, Clemson and Notre Dame are poised to cruise to undefeated regular seasons, the one-loss slate of teams vying for playoff spots have business to take care of. Michigan has a date with Ohio State while Oklahoma travels to West Virginia next week. Washington State is alive but host Washington in the Apple Cup with monumental implications on the line. Then of course the all-important SEC Championship Game between Georgia and Alabama.
Things will take care of itself but if the season ended today, our staff has it:
- Notre Dame
A competitive win over Indiana for Michigan was enough for our staff to bump the Wolverines out of the top 4 and slide in Georgia.
The biggest riser within the poll this week was Kentucky and Boise State who both climbed seven spots. Convincing wins over Middle Tennessee State and New Mexico have 10-win seasons in sight for both programs.
The biggest faller within the poll was Syracuse who slid 9 spots after being routed by Notre Dame. Many thought the Orange had a chance to spoil ND’s season but the game never felt competitive with the Irish claiming a 36-3 victory.
The first 21 teams in our poll were ranked from last week but the final four spots are new. Texas A&M, Northwestern, Fresno State and North Carolina State are in while Cincinnati, Buffalo, Iowa State and Boston College are out.
As a reminder, our poll is the consensus of all members of the TDN staff’s individual rankings averaged out to build a composite poll. 34 different teams received votes from our staff (listed below).
