Another week of the 2018 season is in the books and the list of unbeaten teams continues to dwindle down, again causing a shakeup in the coveted top 4. With Ohio State steamrolled by Purdue, LSU now joins our “if the season ended today” College Football Playoffs.
We had a two teams tie for the biggest riser within the poll with Washington State and LSU both climbing four spots. The Cougars claimed a monumental victory over Oregon to improve its record to 6-1. The Tigers racked up another quality win over Mississippi State and now slot at No. 3 in our poll.
The biggest faller within the poll is the Ducks of Oregon who slid 10 spots after its loss to Washington State. Oregon had a bunch of momentum after beating Cal and Washington but ran out of good fortune against the Cougars on Saturday.
Sliding completely out of the poll this week is Mississippi State, Miami and Michigan State. The Canes were idle but the Bulldogs and Spartans fell to conference foes LSU and Michigan respectively. Playing in arguably the best two divisions in college football, Mississippi State and Michigan State always had tough paths to hanging in the rankings.
Joining our poll this week is Utah and Stanford who make return visits after defeating USC and Arizona State respectively. Debuting for the first time this season is the Virginia Cavaliers who now boast a 5-2 record after winning 4 of its last 5 games.
As a reminder, our poll is the consensus of all members of the TDN staff’s individual rankings averaged out to build a composite poll. A whopping 36 different teams received votes from our staff (listed below).
