NAME: Jabari Zuniga
POSITION: EDGE Defender
CLASS: RS Junior
JERSEY: No. 92
RECRUITMENT RATING: 3-star
WT: 246 lbs
PROS: Rare build and physique for the position, appears physically pro-ready. Physicality will not be a concern, likes to scrap 1v1. Plays a variety of techniques at Florida and offers a balanced skill set against the run and the pass.
Flashes of burst, speed up the arc and flexibility to corner are nothing short of jaw-dropping. Despite long-legged frame (I think he’s taller than 6-foot-3), there are instances of dipping low under punches around the arc that are exciting. Has flashed a push-pull move at times when working from the interior.
Pretty solid point of attack run defender. Holds his own inside due to good arm extension and isn’t easily pushed around 1v1. Works into his opponents’ chest and anchors 1v1 despite pad level higher than you’d like. When he does get off the ball quickly, penetration threat with range and a big tackle radius to make stops behind the line of scrimmage.
CONS: Segmented mover who isn’t as rapid in his change of direction as you’d like him to be. Looks a little stiff laterally at times when trying to navigate to the opposite edge of a blocker. Far too often the last defender off the ball, showing poor snap anticipation which kills his first step.
Too many paddy-cake stalemates as a pass rusher. Lacks a deep stable of moves and can’t break down opponents 1v1. Very little plan of attack and has made his best plays as a pass rusher on blown assignments or obvious athletic mismatches. Misused as an interior player too often, which has left his rush game off the edge underdeveloped. Hand usage will need a lot of work at the NFL level.
Tries to backdoor zone schemes and will run himself out of the play. Has to do a better job of fighting to stay clean playside and keep from getting reached. He may have situational pass rush potential on the interior, but he needs to play on the edge in the NFL. Double teams will eat him alive due to high pad level, couple examples against LSU stood out.
