Another week and another big shakeup in our poll. Last week, all of the top-10 teams remained in their slots from the previous week but four of them playing each other on Saturday led to a slew of changes. In fact, only 6 teams didn’t see any change to their rankings in our latest poll.
For the first time this season, our staff has a consensus No. 1 team in Alabama but Clemson and Ohio State flip-flopped on slots No. 3 and 4. Both the Tigers and Buckeyes claimed narrow victories on Saturday. Clemson escaped Syracuse while Ohio State took advantage of a Penn State meltdown to steal a road win.
This week’s biggest riser is Notre Dame who climbed three spots by knocking off Stanford in a dominant 38-17 win. The Irish now have signature wins over Michigan and Stanford to build its all-important resume given its lack of conference affiliation. A big road test against Virginia Tech awaits on Saturday Night.
The biggest faller within the poll this week is Stanford who slid four spots after its loss to Notre Dame. The Cardinal’s luck ran out against the Irish after stealing a win against Oregon in Week 4.
Exiting our poll this week is Utah, BYU and Mississippi State. The Utes dropped its second game in as many weeks with a loss to Washington State while BYU lost convincingly to Washington. The Bulldogs are riding a two-game skid of its own after falling at home to Florida on Saturday.
Speaking of the Gators, they debut on our poll for the first time this season and boast a 4-1 record. They face LSU on Saturday which will have major implications on the poll. Also debuting this week is a pair of undefeated teams in Colorado and NC State.
As a reminder, our poll is the consensus of all members of the TDN staff’s individual rankings averaged out to build a composite poll.
