PROS: Does not take long for length and size to be utilized upon watching. Has a large catch radius thanks to notable wingspan. Contested targets have yielded some impressive results on account of size and hand strength to squeeze the football through contact and not be deterred by a pesky defender. Has good second gear when uncontested off the line of scrimmage, able to open long strides and quickly get into the secondary. Red zone presence has been large through first several games of the 2018 CFB season. Shows a good effort as a blocker, engaging in second efforts down the field to try to wrangle in a secondary defender and break off a big gain for teammates. Has had flashes of brilliance to concentrate in heavy traffic to secure the football.

CONS: Skill set and potential are strong but Preston Williams is very underdeveloped from the technical side of his game. Takes too long to release against press coverage and needs to hasten steps to allow acceleration up the field. Has had some goofs in tracking the ball down the field and with consistency pushing through his breaks, yielding to timing throws that put ball security in danger. Can be frustrating to spectate in contested situations, especially vertically down the field. Would like to see more aggression to find the football earlier and adjust to prevent defenders from undercutting the throw. Balance through press or contact at the top of route steps can force him to concede too much valuable space as well.
