PROS: Notre Dame’s Jerry Tillery has been steadily improving as a player throughout his time with the Irish. Continued focus on conditioning and body composition have added more range, nimble footedness and mobility to his game. Has long arms and when properly utilized has the needed power to jolt, press and stack blockers at the line of scrimmage. Secondary hand counters carry a lot of power and ability to dislodge blocker’s hands from frame. Shows a decent level of lateral range, capable of flowing to contribute in pursuit on off-tackle runs or out to the hashes. Early showing against Michigan (2018) suggests he’s in the best shape of his career, as dynamic range and short area quickness were the best they’ve ever been.

CONS: Consistency and anchor ability needs to improve. Had fits at times against Boston College in 2017, was pushed off the line while looking to stack blocks and was forced to re-anchor several yards downfield. Majority of film resume doesn’t show a highly flexible player, had some battles with pad level and an ineffective tilt to flatten and chase down plays from the back side. Tillery’s get off at the snap was effective, but not on a snap by snap basis. Would love to see momentum from a disruptive game to open 2018 continue through to the end of the year.
