The thrill of College Football is on the horizon and it’s time to consider who the best teams in the nation are. Welcome to our TDN staff poll, which is the consensus of all members of the TDN staff’s individual rankings averaged out to build a composite poll.
While hope springs eternal for universities across the country, our staff currently slots three of last year’s playoff teams in the top four. As you can guess, there was much disparity along the way and nearly 40 different schools received at least one vote.
Leading the way among conferences with schools represented is the SEC with six, followed by the Big Ten with five, the ACC and Big 12 with four apiece, and the Pac-12 in the rear with three. The AAC (Central Florida), MWC (Boise State) and Notre Dame are also in the poll.
Among the teams our staff believes will make a considerable leap are Michigan and Florida State, who did not rank among the Final AP Top 25 poll in 2017. And despite finishing in the Top 20 of the final AP Poll of 2017, neither Northwestern nor Oklahoma State received any votes from our staff. Undefeated and self-proclaimed 2017 National Champions UCF ranks 20th while South Carolina sneaks into the No. 25 spot despite not being ranked in the AP Poll to close out 2017.
The wait for the College Football to arrive feels like an eternity and the season inevitably flies by. Enjoy the drama folks, and let us know what you think of our initial rankings in the comment section!
