PROS: Terrific open field athlete, showcasing strong pursuit skills and the ability to cover a lot of ground. Effective as a free rusher from the nickel, both walked up in a two-point stance and as a blitzer coming off of press coverage. Hybrid skills allow for usages on the first, second and third level of the defense, although will need to become more skill specific at the next level. High levels of flexion and bend to pivot and turn the corner as a pressure player, has met a lot of plays at the mesh point off the edge. Has shown some admirable turn and run abilities as well, a skill that will be key to further development and ability to fulfill every down role in the NFL. Strong tackler, has plenty of pop in his pads and shows good habits as a wrap up defender.

CONS: Unclear what featured role will be in the NFL. Alignment and usage offered a lot of free looks off the edge, without having to fight through blocks or set the edge against blockers. Coverage reps will require additional development, would like to see a greater consciousness to read when the ball is in the air and turn to contest from the trail position. Usages in deep zone are extremely limited, an area of concern that will be highlighted by Jabrill Peppers’ steep learning curve in Cleveland in 2017. Plays the same “Viper” role as Peppers in Michigan defense, so finding a base package role for Hudson will be essential in his draft assessment unless he is able to show a lot of growth and development in 2018.
