PROS: David Dowell logged five turnovers in 2017, all against top competition (2 vs. Michigan, 2 vs. Penn State and 1 vs. Ohio State). Middle of the field prowler who has some positional flexibility on the back end, tasked with playing man to man in off coverage in addition to zone coverage role. Does well in initial drop and backpedal in zone coverage to stay firm on initial landmarks and not be sucked out of position.

CONS: Habitual cut tackler, doesn’t often keep feet on contact. Prefers to drop low and cut legs out from underneath of ball carriers and receivers. Does not play with a particularly notable level of physicality, can get jarred around on rub concepts or when trying to attack blockers on the boundary. Does not appear to have great burst or explosiveness, so range and effectiveness in current role at the college level is left in question. Lack of long speed shows up in off coverage due to lack of recovery against a hard break. Improved angles when driving down hill would go a long way in improving ability to arrive at ball carriers and receivers under control.
