PROS: Clayton Thorson offers a prototypical build of an NFL drop back passer. Has a sturdy frame to absorb hits and sustain a beating as needed in the pocket. Has found a lot of success with RPO concepts, which are becoming more and more prevalent at the NFL level. Can throw accurately in the short areas of the field to allow receivers to flip up the field and transition into a runner after the catch for optimal gains. Intermediate passes best find their targets in the middle of the field. Hook on delivery is high and tight, doesn’t expose much of the football for pass rushers going by to get a piece and force a fumble.

CONS: Accuracy wanes the further down the field the ball is pushed. Erratic spray chart beyond 15 or so yards and even completed passes require much more work from receivers. Loses touch as pressure builds around him it the pocket, becoming more of a fastball pitcher regardless of depth and leverage of receiver. Is not especially athletic and can get boxed into the pocket with relative ease and then be forced to make tough throws around bodies. Can be guilty of happy feet in the pocket waiting for receiver to uncover. Will have a hard time moving beyond a single read in stretches, guilty of guiding defenders to his eventual target and diminishing throwing windows before ball arrives.
