NAME: Karan Higdon

SCHOOL: Michigan

POSITION: Running back

CLASS: Senior

JERSEY: No. 22

HT: 5-9

WT: 190

D.O.B.: 9/08/1996

PROS: Enters final season as a low mileage back (just 247 career carries) and will continue to share carries with Chris Evans to keep the wear and workload down. Explosive second gear and if able to uncover in the hole will defeat pursuit angles with ease, opening the strides and ripping off large gains. Pairs potent burst with a violent and aggressive demeanor in high traffic areas, he will run the feet assertively to press through soft tackle challenges and understands leverage and the need for low pads. Shows a good grasp on gap concepts, patiently allowing his blocks to develop before accelerating up the field. Has enough juice to catch the corner with a clean block on the edge, will beat scraping LBs to the spot and gouge the defense effectively there as well. Also offers good balance and ability to stay under control through his cuts, can jump cut laterally and collect quickly to realign his track up the field. Versatile and potent back who, barring injury, should break the 1,000 yard rushing barrier he missed by just 6 yards in 2017.

CONS: Despite aggressive running style, physical stature is something to monitor. Does not have an overly thick frame and although it isn’t an issue on the field, it could be a catalyst for durability issues. How much of that explosiveness can be retained with some added muscle mass? If Higdon is going to be offered a shot at a featured role, odds are he’ll need to find out. Has missed a handful of opportunities to bounce cuts outside for big gains in eagerness to square the pads, perhaps leaving a few big plays on the table. Hasn’t been offered much of a look in the receiving game to this point either, with just 9 career receptions. That said, Higdon averaged 16.4 yards per catch in 2017, so can he sustain strong production with a higher volume?
