NAME: Jeffery Simmons

POSITION: Interior Defensive Lineman

CLASS: Junior

JERSEY: No. 94

HT: 6’3

WT: 301 lbs

D.O.B.: 7/28/1997

PROS: Powerful. Can walk back an opponent on a bull rush even without proper leverage. Not content to sit on blocks, will work his hands furiously to disengage from blockers and impact the pocket. Works to the edge of his opponent with swats and rips. Has a plan of attack as a pass rusher. Rip-’n-dip is deadly when he gets on guard’s hip. Good range to chase plays down. Agile change of direction for a big man. Not a lot of bad weight. Terrific play temperament and ferocity. Good first step despite a stance that needs work. Power to toss opponents aside with hump moves or drive them back into the quarterback’s lap.

CONS: Can still stand to improve at IDing blocking schemes and how to take on certain blocks. Pad level swells at times and can be driven back a yard or two, especially by doubles. Doesn’t always maximize full arm extension, making disengaging from blocks harder. Square stance prohibits first step. Will need to be coached up on a more traditional stance.
