NAME: Derrick Brown

SCHOOL: Auburn

POSITION: Interior Defensive Lineman

CLASS: Junior

HT: 6’4

WT: 316 lbs

D.O.B.: 4/5/1998

PROS: Works a rush plan. Uses his hands to stay clean and works to the edge of his opponent with a purpose. Legit power as a bull rusher. When technique is right, has the power and quickness to dismantle an opponent. Moves well, can run and has impressive range for a big man. Positional flexibility on the interior. Might be better in more of an attacking scheme.

CONS: Inconsistent pad level. Can get bullied by base blocks and doubles due to lack of processing and inconsistent technique. Must keep full arm extension and stop taking on blocks chest-to-chest. Good, not elite first step. Too often late off the ball. Pass rush plan is inconsistent and fails to counter off of an oft-used bull rush when it fails. Spends too much time on the ground. Erased by zone schemes when he didn’t ID blocks quickly. Got mauled vs Georgia. Gap control is suspect. Must improve his ability to recognize blocks and initiate first contact from a leveraged point or Brown will be liability on run downs.
